This was such a fun learning about directions, magnets and how earth’s magnetic field reacted with the magnetic field of the magnetic needle to either repel or attract each other.
For thousand of years, people have been using magnet in form of compass to study directions. This compass can be called an old-fashioned compass. They actually used magnetized needle to find directions. They fitted this needle along a cork or something similar and floated this needle in a bowl of water. The needle would point to North only.
Material required:
Sewing needle Magnet (horse shoe magnet or fridge magnet) Wax paper Scissors Bowl of water
Directions:
1. Cut a circular piece out of wax paper. Make sure that its diameter is smaller than the needle.
2. Rub the needle along the magnet around 20 times, always in the same direction, starting at the eye and moving towards the point.
3. Poke the needle through the wax paper circle, so that the needle sits centrally on the paper.
4. Take your bowl of water and place the needle and wax paper carefully onto the surface of the water.
5. After a moment, the needle will start to move all by itself. When it stops, it will be lined up with north and south.
The science behind:
When we rub the magnet against the needle, we are magnetising the needle that is transforming it into a temporary magnet. Just like the needle or the magnet in compass reacts ( attracts or repel) with the magnetic field of the earth and thereby tell the direction, this temporary magnet also reacts to the magnetic field of the Earth causing it to align North to South.
This cute bunny garland is a perfect craft activity for spring or Easter. A super easy and fun filled activity, that can be done by kids and adults alike. All it requires is some craft papers and cutting them in shape of a bunny and sticking some yarn pompoms onto it and finally hanging those on a string.
The first thing that you need for this activity is an image of a bunny to use it as a stencil. You can use a printable or draw a bunny and use it as a stencil. I drew the same. Pompoms are also easy, just that they might require help of an adult to handle while making. I used craft papers of several prints and colors and stuck yarns pompoms in pink and blue.

Give your own exciting twist to playing LEGOS®
The ways to play LEGOS® are just endless. With zillions of LEGO® pieces around at the Center, sky
is the limit towards constructing marvellous creations. Even with your own set
of pieces at home, you can experiment the following.
Build a famous landmark or your favorite building. You can just refer to any book or picture from your album for building any of your favorite structure. Also, you have instructions online to build a lot of well-known structures, like The Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome etc.
Merge and mix to
create a new world on a particular theme. From a given set of LEGO® pieces create your own themes
of a particular landscape or a setup. You can even encourage children to make
up their own stories about their LEGO®
creations.
Creative challenge. Time yourself and your friend to create something you have decided to. For example, you might start with a simple practice of building the tallest structure in a particular time period. This also teaches kids a lot about science. For example, here they learn the wider the base, the taller will be the structure.
Craft a character or an animal. Use your imagination or refer to any picture or follow online instructions to create anything under the sun– a robot or an animal or an object or any of your favorite character.
LEGOS® are not only helpful in building skills in kids like thinking, problem solving, focussing; the creations they make give a great a sense of accomplishment that can be extremely satisfying!
It’s time you discover your favorite source of LEGO® source or creation!
Doing cheese crackers is something I always enjoy doing as much as serving. They are the quickest form of apetizers that allow variation to another level. From preserves to nuts to fruits to fresh herbs; they can be altered to your fancy to give an interesting twist to your dish.
They are equally interesting for kids. You can vary according to the taste of kids or even join them in doing these. A board of cheese cracker will always be a crowd pleaser with its element of aesthetics and tastefulness to it.
What you’ll need:
Cracker: The first thing you’ll need is crackers; from triscuits to grahams to any cracker. I used a multigrain crackers which was low in carb.
Cheese: The second thing required is cheese. I used Philadelphia cream cheese and American cheese slices.
Fruit: You can choose from any to every fruit. I picked apple from my refrigerator.
Dip: You can choose any dip from queso, to ranch to hummus. The dip used in here is homemade mexican salsa.
Fruit preseves/jam/jellies: You can give an interesting twist to your cheese cracker from choosing from a wide variety of preserves to jam and jellies. I used strawberry jam.
Greens: Greens can vary from avocados to cucumbers to olives.
